Music Inspired Contest

Last Updated on Thursday, 2 December 2010 12:03 Written by Handmade Artists' Forum and Shop Tuesday, 16 November 2010 11:53

Well this is our second forum wide contest we have hosted and once again we have pushed our artists to their limits . The idea of the music inspired challenge was to have a song or a certain type of music inspire our artists to create a piece that reflects how the music affects them. Music can touch a person in their deepest core, and as you can see from our entries the challenge worked.

The winning member will receive two weeks of free advertising on the Handmade Artists’ Forum, HAF Blog, Chainmaille By MBOI, and Makin’ The Best Of it as well as $25.00 cold hard cash to do with whatever they want!

There is also a prize for voting and leaving a comment! At the end of the contest we will choose one person at random who votes and will give them $25.00 to spend on any item they want on The Handmade Artists’ Shop!

In addition to the $25.00 prize the commenter also will win this beautiful Handmade Little Black Bear by iKnitQuiltSew.

This bear has everything going for it!  In keeping with the first contest, he’s upcycled…  In a previous life, he was a machine washable coat (which has been washed)!  If a disaster strikes, this bear can be put in a pillow case or a lingerie bag and machine washed and dried on warm settings!  In keeping with this contest, I can remember singing a song when I was in Girl Scouts (many, MANY years ago) about a little black bear.  The pads of his feet and fronts of his ears are eco-felt (made from recycled paper and water bottles!).    He has safety-stay plastic eyes and a hand-embroidered nose and mouth.  His arms and legs move – they are jointed with the old-fashioned string-and-button method which is all internal.  Without his scarf, he is completely child-safe.  Standing, he is 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall.

So take your time and pick your favorite, you can vote only once per IP address, and don’t forget to leave a comment to be automatically entered to win $25.00 to spend at the HAFshop and that beautiful Little Black Bear!

Featured Artist – Anagram For Ink

Last Updated on Wednesday, 2 September 2009 02:31 Written by lisianblue Thursday, 3 September 2009 06:00

I’m Niko Silvester, and I love books. I seem always to have been reading books, and I’ve been trying to make them for almost as long. It wasn’t until the mid 90s that I started to get serious about learning bookbinding, but I didn’t have a teacher and had no idea what I was doing. I went ahead and did it anyway, and had some small success selling very basic blank journals and book jewelry (tiny books on earrings and necklaces) at craft fairs in St John’s, Newfoundland, where I lived at the time.

Fast forward a decade and I landed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where I studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and learned how to make books properly. I also expanded into photography, printmaking and letterpress printing–all to be able to make better and more interesting books. Now I’m having another go at selling my work, both online and in the real world.

I have two Etsy shops and one ArtFire Shop. White Raven Arts on Etsy sells my art–lithographs, relief prints, intaglio prints, photography and artists books can all be found there, along with whatever other odds and ends I turn my hand to. Anagram for Ink on Etsy is where I sell stuff for other people to use. I have blank journals, letterpress cards and book jewelry, and I’m always happy to do custom work. My ArtFire shop, also called Anagram for Ink, combines everything I sell in my two Etsy shops.
