Born and living in Maine most of my life with a large family taught me to learn many skills very young. You become a Jill of all trades and sometimes a master of none. I have been sewing for many years starting in high school. Continuing to sew for my three daughters as they grew so fast. Then came the grandchildren 16 and counting! Now, I create just about anything. It is a joy to know God has given me talented hands to work with and create in his marvelous world.
My most creative stage started after my grandchildren were born. First a couple of rag dolls, then some bunnies and finally a bear for a granddaughter to my son. Since then many creations have come into the picture. Handbags, pillowcases, doll clothes, pocket pals and so much more.

My name is Heather, I’m a self taught artist, and while I’ve dabbled in many mediums over the years, I really love people and colored glass.
I’m a mother of four and step-mom to two more (ranging in age from 2-16), I feel that I’ve done my part in making people and will someday learn how to make colored glass items, so right now I make dolls, and embellish things with colored glass.
My dolls represent people, not necessarily people that I know, more like a representation of the human experience. I love to put a face on art. Once I do, it gives the piece a personality. I prefer working with my own faces which I will draw, paint or sculpt, although I am open to using other artist work especially if it ‘speaks’ to me. And my dolls do ‘speak’, often times ‘argue’ and ‘insist’ on a different version of what I originally intended. All of my pieces are one of a kind, I would not and probably could not reproduce them. Color invokes emotion; glass is just mesmerizing. Many of my dolls are covered in glass beads. I also dabble in jewelry, and make big bold pieces that I would like to wear.
If Art is a visual expression of emotion I prefer to share a positive feeling. I feel that I have a responsibility to make this world a better place for all the wonderful people in it. Because of this, I find great satisfaction in upcycling discarded jewelry and repurposing found objects. I keep a box of such Treasures just waiting for inspiration.
My husband is also an artist; he’s in school working on a degree in fine arts. He does amazing things with oil paint and dabbles in computer graphics and photography. I have this dream to one day wear long flowing skirts and big bold jewelry and play hostess at our own cafe/art gallery where I will also teach classes on creative expression.
Until then I’ll continue to create and do my part in making our world wonderful.
I offer my work at Heather’s Haven.
